Being healthy doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice creamy, decadent and delicious chocolate treats. You can have chocolate AND eat it TOO!
How, you ask?
One of my favorite smoothies not only tastes great (almost like a coveted chocolate dessert), but provides lots of nutrients that support energy levels to tackle a busy and hectic day.
The Peanut Butter Cup Smoothie is packed full of nutrient rich ingredients such as:
Peanut Butter
Peanut butter is a good source of protein, carbs and fat. In addition it contains vitamin E, B3, B6, folate, magnesium, copper and manganese which are all good for organ, cell and tissue function. Peanut butter also contains resveratrol known to fight free radicals that cause heart disease and cancer.
Cocoa Powder
Cocoa is made by crushing cocoa beans and plays a role in chocolate production. Polyphenols are naturally occurring antioxidants, which help lower inflammation, blood pressure, and bad LDL cholesterol. Even better, cocoa has been shown to increase calmness and contentment.
Chia Seeds
Chia seeds are a great source of fiber, protein, calcium, magnesium and phosphorus. In addition, chia seeds are loaded with Omega 3 fatty acids and antioxidants, which support brain health and our immune systems.
Bananas
Bananas are a great source of vitamin B6, C, and dietary fiber. Containing almost a fourth of our daily diatary needs of B6, bananas support red blood cell production and oxygen levels in the body. Bananas are also good for expectant mothers to support their baby’s developmental needs. As a good source of dietary fiber, bananas help beat constipation which cause toxins to remain in the body longer than is healthy. Even better, research shows that bananas help the body produce serotonin, a hormone that helps us sleep and have a better mood!
So if you love bananas and chocolate, like me, then you are in luck!! This smoothie is a great morning treat to set off the day on a decadent good vibes note, hold you with the energy to last until lunch, helps give a mid-day burst and/or can help with recovery post workout! Not to mention it is delicious and a kid friendly way to get added nutrients into a picky eater, too!
